Three years after Medical Supermarket launched, the NHS appears to have seen the light and realised the power of price comparison websites.
The NHS is creating a website to help save millions of pounds in the way it purchases good and services. Such a website will include details of what each NHS trust pays for everything from exam gloves and medical supplies to the cost of carpets.
Its about time the NHS built such a system. In our experience, we know that the same Trust can buy the same office paper at different prices. This website will give the Trusts the visibility they need to negotiate with their suppliers and get a fair price. Lets just hope the procurement teams in the hospitals use the date wisely.
Since launching Medical Supermarket has helped the primary care industry release £1.5m in savings.
