Whether you’re a Practice Manager or any other Manager, ‘managing people’ is an integral component of your business! Your team is undoubtedly the most valuable resource that will either make or break a practice.
But why is it so hard to manage them? Possibly because many managers do not adhere to these basic steps.
Walk the talk
This is more often than not the biggest stumbling block in team management as your team is bound to follow the leader. When you display integrity, ethics, respect and compassion, you will quite simply reap what you sow. If Team Work is not inculcated in your very core, you can’t blame your team for not displaying it.
Aim for the Moon to land on the Stars!
Set realistic goals but ones that stretch YOU first. The more you are stretched and aim high; the more you’re likely to have a team that’ll latch onto that same passion and drive for perfection. Motivate your team, both collectively and individually and watch how the reverberating results will impact your goals.
The hand NEEDS all 5 fingers!
Likewise loop your entire team into your communication be they GPs or receptionists and everyone in between. Also exhibit that policy / protocol changes apply across the board, irrespective of team hierarchy. It is your responsibility to communicate the pivotal role Primary Care plays in society and accordingly empower each team member to play their role fair and square.
Consistency is a full time job
To be consistent, consistently – try these steps:
– Strictly NO favourites within a team
– Writing DOES make an exact man-AGER!
– What goes around comes right back at you
– Don’t abuse Managerial privileges
– Rules are applicable to everyone – including YOURSELF
– Honesty is the best medicine
THANK YOU is best left .. said!
The more you appreciate your team; you’re bound to get better returns on your team-investment. It is also recommended to record the progress of each team member, so that their individual contributions are taken into account when demonstrating holistic growth of any practice.
