Practices that are well-led, account for a better working environment within the GP sector while ensuring better patient satisfaction and improved employee morale. On the flipside, Practices that are poorly-led often find themselves having to deal with issues ranging from safety concerns, low turnaround time leading to poor patient care levels, across the board.

The CQC therefore places a high level of significance in inspecting the quality & leadership standard of GPs to ensure consistent service standards. Given that this is one of the core inspection criteria of the CQC, it is beneficial for GPs to be well versed with the aspects below.

  • Engagement:
This is a vital criterion across the board be it a steady level of engagement between the carer and the patient, or sound engagement across all tiers of staff.
  • Team work culture:
Team working within a Practice is more a culture than a short lived ‘fad’ and one that the leadership should promote proactively.
  • Learning & Innovation:
Much like the team work culture, this too is something that should be innately promoted within the GP supplemented by a sturdy leadership strategy.
  • Strategic vision:
Forming the very backbone of the inspection, this would ensure GPs adhere to a clear vision and a definitive strategy based on which the provision of quality care can then be carried out, systematically.
